Prof. Jinsheng Chen (director of Research Center of Atmospheric Environment), Prof. Hang Xiao (talent of the fourth installment of “Young overseas high-level talents introduction plan” of Central Organization Department), and Dr. Junjun Deng from IUE (CAS) visited CIGIT on invitation of Prof. Fumo Yang (Vice Director, Division of Ecological & Environmental Research on Three Gorges), and gave academic reports on Sep. 19th, 2014. Prof. Fumo Yang presided the academic reports. Prof. Desheng Pei, Assoc. Prof. Liyan Song and Assoc. Prof. Yiwei Ren, as well as the related researchers and graduates attended the academic reports.

Firstly, Prof. Chen introduced his main research topic and research platform construction (including the Comprehensive Observation Station of Atmospheric Environment, the Experiment Platform of Atmospheric Mercury Pollution, and the Experimental Platform of Flue Gas Denitration Catalyst, etc.) to the participants. And then, he gave an academic report entitled “Investigation on atmospheric mercury contamination of the southeast coast”. 14 stations of Haixi city group and the station of Xiamen were chosen as examples to introduce the latest research progress on atmospheric particulate mercury and atmospheric morphological mercury. Finally, he deeply discussed with the participants about the source of mercury pollution, sampling, bioaccumulation effect, and change with the season, etc.

Prof. Xiao gave an academic report entitled “Investigation on atmospheric long-range transport of persistent organic pollutants from the cool trapping effect of Tibetan Plateau”. He deeply explored the influence of polar and mountain cold hydrazine effects on the atmospheric long-range transport of persistent organic pollutants. Furthermore, he briefly introduced the passive sampler which developed by him.

Dr. Deng gave an academic report entitled “The characteristic and cause of a low-visibility event in Xiamen Area”. He introduced the characteristic of a continuous low-visibility event in winter in Xiamen. Moreover, the influence of meteorology and pollution on this low-visibility event was analyzed.

After the academic reports, Prof. Chen, Prof. Xiao, and Dr. Deng visited the laboratory of Research Center of Atmospheric Environment, Division of Ecological & Environmental Research on Three Gorges. Furthermore, they deeply discussed with the related researchers on the possible cooperation in the future.
