Mission

The Research Centre for Ecological Dynamics and Regeneration (RCEDR), of the Division of Eco-Environmental Sciences on the Three Gorges Reservoir Region, is one of 16 earliest formed research team in Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (GIGIT, CAS). After 3years development, it has become the biggest interdisciplinary team in GIGIT.

Research interest

Currently, three main research directions have been formed: Landscape pattern optimisation and management (Landscape Group), ecological techniques for water treatment (Water Group), and ecosystem dynamics and regulation (Ecosystem dynamics Group). These groups have carried out the research projects of West Action Programme (CAS), West Light Programme (CAS), Innovation Aggregation Programme (CAS), two Natural Science Foundations of China ( NSFC ), two Natural Science Funds of Chongqing and three Key Science and Technology Programmes (Chongqing Municipality). Based on these research programmes, an ecological water treatment base has been established in Changshou Lake of Chongqing Municipality. The Kai County Secondary Wetland Ecological Station (CIGIT, CAS) has also been established. Further, the Environmental Impact Assessment Department (CIGIT, CAS) are currently under development

Faculties and students

The RCEDR consists of 23 faculties and students, including 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 8 research associates, 5 assistant researchers, 1 PHD Candidate and 3 postgraduate students.

Techniques and Expertise Features

Landscape Group: Remote sensing, GIS analysis and modelling, Plant and Soil Science. The group focuses on long-term monitoring of land use/cover change in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region, landscape ecological planning and land use optimisation, complex plant community configuration, ecosystem service evaluation and management, environmental impact assessment (especially large-scale human activities) and regional ecological security assessment, strategiesconsultancyservices for regional sustainability.

Water Group: household water ecological treatment, in-situ ecological remediation of water pollution, water pollution processes and eco-environmental responses.

Ecosystem dynamics Group: biogeochemical cycling of pollutants; fate, transport, and transformation of nutrients; bio-concentration of pollutants and opportunities for intervention.

Application

Interdisciplinary ecosystem design, consultancy related to sustainability strategies, environmental impact assessment, regional development and ecological planning, regional eco-environmental monitoring, ecological water pollution containment, opportunities forpollution intervention
