The research center is based in the Three Gorges region and focuses on key scientific issues in the field of environmental analytical chemistry. It conducts advanced research on in-situ spectroscopy technology and explores the development of miniaturized and flexible environmental intelligent analysis and monitoring equipment. It aims to solve the key technical problems in the development and research of scientific instrument and equipment for the green Three Gorges and national major strategic needs. It aims to develop a batch of domestically produced spectrometers with independent intellectual property rights and advanced technology, and promote the application demonstration and industrialization of related intelligent environmental monitoring devices.

Team
The research center currently has 14 members, including 1 researcher, 3 special research assistants, and 10 master's and doctoral students. In recent years, the center has undertaken a number of research and talent projects, including the National "863" Program, NSFC General Projects, NSFC Youth Projects, The " Light of West" Interdisciplinary Team Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the project of Chongqing Water Resources Bureau, and the Postdoctoral Science Foundation of China.
Dr. Wei Zhang is a Researcher, doctoral supervisor, and director of the Smart Environmental Analysis Research Center. He is recognized as a young top talent in the field of national ecological environment protection, a recipient of the Outstanding Youth Fund of Chongqing, a young scholar in regional development at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one of the first batch of young top talents in Chongqing, and a recipient of the Young Scientist Award from the Chinese Environmental Science Society.
