Three Gorges Ecological and Environmental Research

Reservoir Ecology Research Center

Research Center Orientation
Based on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, with the Three Gorges Reservoir and the large-scale terraced reservoirs as the main objects, we will study the migration and transformation laws of the reservoir ecosystems, the evolution of the landscape pattern, the ecological and environmental effects, and explore the process of ecosystem succession under changing environments, the sediment and biogenic element transport of the reservoirs, as well as ecological restoration and reconstruction techniques for the development of difficult terrains, in order to build up a source of scientific and technological innovation in the ecological and environmental protection and management of the reservoirs, a national think-tank of the sustainable development of the river basin, and a cultivation base of high-level talents in the field of the reservoirs, so as to provide a strong scientific and technological support for the national strategy of building up a strong ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Research Direction

1River-Reservoir composite ecosystem succession process and mechanism

2River-Reservoir sediment transport and biomass cycling

3River-Reservoir ecological protection and restoration technology
